gawck's funny sign friday™: I'd probably be okay letting raccoons live in the garage if they did all our laundry.

He wound up with hundreds of sketches--and a realization that only 25% of people actually drew a bicycle that would function if built based on the drawing. “This is actually a test that psychologists use to demonstrate how our brain sometimes tricks us into thinking we know something even though we don’t,” said Gimini. Gimini went on to actually build some of the most unique bike designs. “A single designer could not invent so many new bike designs in 100 lifetimes and this is why I look at this collection in such awe.”

(image: http://www.neatorama.com/neatopicto/2014/07/07/Polite-Coffee/) Backed by a lifetime of typographic experience and skill, Canadian designer Rod McDonald spent eight years creating Classic Grotesque, an old style inspired typeface released to the world in New York this month. He worried about how such an old style would be received, but those in the industry were incredibly supportive, including Patrick Griffin of font studio Canada Type, “It’s the biggest thing to ever come out of Canada in terms of type design.”
With the availability of free fonts often created with very little knowledge of typography, the appreciation of a well-designed typeface is at risk of being lost. While type design and the use of type has changed with the advent of the computer, “fonts don’t just appear out of Microsoft Word,” McDonald said. A real typography designer agonizes over the subtleties of each letter. McDonald said, “I’m not happy until it works beside every other character.” This article describes McDonald's career and the history behind his Classic Grotesque typeface. The world record for the largest cookie mosaic was recently set in Toronto. The community was invited to the celebration (and to eat the cookies later) at Evergreen Brick Works. The event was an initiative of WE Day and Robin Hood. The final mosaic was made up of 13,000 individual shortbread cookies that created a world map mosaic. https://annex.snapd.com/event/923698#/
gawck's funny sign friday™: This week's Funny Sign Friday is a little different. It features a small gas station in Seattle that had no use for their sign when they took over the location. They decided to do something different--and fun. Once a week the staff change the message to include a funny joke or pun.
The sign now has it's own website, Facebook and Twitter pages. http://www.wimp.com/gas-station-signs-funny/ |
